Rare Formula!
I want to let everyone know about one of the hottest up and coming musical artists that are about to take off into the music industry. A group by the name of Rare Formula. Founded by the help of Suede from Camp Lo, this group strives to do something very unique. Their music is a rare combination of Hip-Hop, Soul, and Fusion.
The members include a trio who go by Simz, Seku, and Simone. Eric Sim, who I’ve known since my freshmen year in college, is the man of beats. The hip-hop beats that he creates can be compared to the those heard at the top of the music industry. Seku, who I just recently met, is an amazing guy and a talented artist. Simone, who I also met, is bottom line: an amazing singer.
This group has a great dynamic that is apparent in their performances. Rare Formula recently opened for Musiq Soulchild, a platinum album and award-winning soul artist, at a concert in Memorial Hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They also just released an free downloadable EP called Planetarium Soul with 8 impressive tracks. With several gigs coming up, Rare Formula is gaining popularity and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get signed to a record label and go big.
Another individual worth noting is my friend DJ Rang who does the DJing at Rare Formula’s live performances. His mixes are ridiculously good. Search YouTube for “bhangra” and one of his mixes is currently number one! So, when you get a chance, check out Rare Formula, as well as DJ Rang and get the EP while its free!

Should I upgrade to Leopard?

So the semester is almost up. Exams are almost done. I should be studying right now, however, I am stuck pondering whether or not I should upgrade my Powerbook G4 to the newest version of the Apple operating system, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
From the looks of it, Leopard seems to be a great operating system with amazing features, including Quick Look, Time Machine, and a updated Mail application. But unfortunately, there have been many issues with the new OS, especially when it comes to compatibility. I came across a couple of articles that seem convinced that its too soon to upgrade. The Unofficial Apple Weblog in had a few interesting reasons not to upgrade, including one about Photoshop having issues on Leopard:
[Leopard: Should you upgrade?]
- If you have only one computer and it’s your production machine, don’t upgrade.
- If you work with Adobe software and need your software to work reliably, don’t upgrade.
Here’s another website that has the Top Five Reasons Not to Upgrade to Leopard.
Can it really be that bad? I mean apple has already pushed out its first update for Leopard, 10.5.1. I think I’ll be fine as long as I can use my important programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, MS Office, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and some others). I just hope my computer can handle it and doesn’t become slower.
So, I think when I get a chance over winter break, I’ll upgrade to Leopard, of course making a bootable backup of my current system. I’ll test it out and make sure that I’m still able to do my work (web design, video production, and everyday usage).
We shall see how this goes. Wish me luck!
UPDATE (April 2008): I never did upgrade to Leopard. My computer is very old and I don’t think it would show any performance benefits. I’ll likely wait to use Leopard ’til my next Apple computer (which probably won’t be until after I graduate college).
What if Jack Bauer was the world’s greatest pizza deliverer?
So what if Jack Bauer was a pizza deliverer instead of a CTU agent?
This is hilarious!
“Internet TV series follows the adventures of Jack Bauer in an alternate universe where he is a pizza deliver agent for PDU. Constantly preventing Pizza Hut attacks and protecting his loved ones from cougars Jack may be having his worst date yet.” Read more

FreeRice.com
So I discovered a new website via Facebook the other day called FreeRice.com. Its a new creative vocabulary game, started on October 7th, 2007, that donates 10 grains of rice through United Nations to help end world hunger.
It’s indeed one of the most creative ideas that I’ve seen on the internet. FreeRice is a simple concept, yet it yields great benefits. Not only are you, well, improving your vocabulary, you are also making a huge difference to those who receive the rice. And FreeRice.com runs the site at no profit. All the rice is paid for by the advertisers seen at the bottom of the page.
Visit FreeRice.com and read the FAQ.
UPDATE [Nov 28, 2007]: FreeRice.com now donates 20 grains of rice for each correct word.
Aaj Ka Dhamaka 2007!
Sangam’s annual intercollegiate dance competition, AAJ KA DHAMAKA, will be held on November 10th 2007 at 7:00PM at Hillside Theatre in Durham, NC.
I had the opportunity to design the Aaj Ka Dhamaka (AKD) website again this year. It features eight pages of full flash content. The site has an audio player and features video clips of past performances in a convenient video player linked off of the Teams page. Read more
Welcome!
So it seems like everyone has their own blog nowadays. They write about everything from their interests, their hobbies and their family to their work, their ideas, and their ventures. In fact, everyone has their own reasons for writing a blog. Here’s a blog entry that I discovered which seeks to answer the question, “Why Do We Blog?” It features excerpts from thirty-five other bloggers about why they blog, some of which are quite interesting.
So after reading these opinions and convincing myself that I’m not foolish to start a blog, I figured hey why not just go for it. But, I kept thinking, “What am I going to write about?” Well, I may not have completely answered that question yet, but I do have some ideas. As you may know, I am interested in web designing and how to create the latest design styles using the most popular or recent web technologies. So that is where I shall begin. I shall feature articles, voice my opinions, and do whatever it is that bloggers really do.
